Membership is by written invitation after an affirmative vote by the chapter.
Applicants must be endorsed by two members of the chapter, both of whom are in good standing.
Eligibility
Section 1: Any woman who is a citizen of the United States of America, of good moral character, who has
attained her eighteenth year, shall be eligible to membership. provided that she shall be acceptable to the Chapter and to
the National Society, Daughters of the America Colonists and shall be the lineal descendant of an ancestor who rendered civil
or military service in any of the colonies prior to July 4, 1776, as listed in the twenty-six categories of Article III, Section
1(c), of the National Bylaws. Legal adoption shall not qualify for lineal descent.
Section 2: No person shall be eligible for membership in this Society who is pledged to, or advocates by force
or violence, the overthrow of the United States of America or that of any state or territory therein, or who has been guilty
of treasonable practices. This Society shall have the right to expel from its membership any person for any of these causes;
any questions arising under this proviso shall be determined by the Society.
Section 3: Each applicant shall agree to conform with the Bylaws adopted by National Society and the Virginia Society.
She shall submit, as proof of eligibility, references which shall be independent of any other lineage society. These proofs
of lineal descent shall be furnished from an ancestor who served in any of the capacities listed in the Bylaws of the National
Society.
